The Old Mill Challenge "Sunset & Twilight"

8"H x10"W Oil on Utrecht Canvas Board  This painting is available through the Daily Paintworks Auction site.  Bidding starts at $47.00 and 10% will be donated breast cancer research.  The "47" project is in response to a challenge by Kimberly Conrad from Contemporary Fine Art International.  All are welcome to join in the challenge.

The challenge this week is presented by Jean Nelson.  I chose to do it in a triadic color scheme.  I first toned the canvas with cad red medium.  After it dried I proceeded with a triadic color scheme of cad orange, viridian, and manganese violet letting the toned background show through for a sunset feel to the painting....my favorite time of day with landscapes!

"Only 25 Points" The Balance Challenge

8.5"H x 9"W  Pastel on Sanded Paper
This painting is up for auction on the Daily Paintworks site.  Go to "All Artists" and look for my name alphabetically.  You can also find it under the Balance Challenge category.http://www.dailypaintworks.com/Challenge/28AF0AA5-636B-4840-9E08-F08BE8084FE5

This is my second entry into The Balance Challenge put up by Carol Marine at the Daily Paintworks site.  It took me longer than I thought to get it finished because of the detail.  Also this picture doesn't seem to show as much light and shadow as the actual painting.  I just got Photoshop elements, so adjusting to using it after using Adobe Photoshop since my first "buy" in 1992!   I learned to play Mahjong about 6 years ago.  I had bought a set on eBay because I loved the floral tiles.  The game had some blank tiles, so I ordered stickers for them to be the joker tiles.  I never learned to play until a friend bought into a retirement village in Florida, learned and came back in the Summer and taught a few of us how to play.

This lovely little vase was given to me by my daughter for my birthday last year.  It has a vintage hand painted look.  It is only about 5 inches tall but packs a punch with the beautiful blues, pinks and greens in the floral design.

"Cherries With Pitcher"

6"H x 6"W
Oil on Canvas Panel
   SOLD
I did several paintings with cherries...and then got to eat them...wouldn't want them to go to waste!  This one is up close view.  I also did the pitcher wholly in view with the cherries at the bottom.  I like this composition best.

If you are in our area of the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, I have paintings on display at Mainstreet Art Centre, The Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake, IL and The Old Courthouse Gallery in Woodstock, IL.

"Viola"

8"H x 8"W   Oil on Canvas Panel

Framed in plain black wooden frame-SOLD

Viola/violets are one of my favorite flowers.  I love their rich purples and the way they spread or reseed themselves across an area with no effort on my part!  These are contained though by their pretty little cup.

"The Present" and The Past Challenge

In Private Collection
                               8"H x 10"W     Oil on canvas board

This is the latest Daily Paintworks Challenge.  Wrap up a present and paint it.  Well, as it happens today is my birthday and on Tuesday afternoon a box arrived from my ex-sister-in-law.  I opened the box and this lovely present was in it.  So I painted the gift box along with the really beautiful card.  The card has sparkles on it...I just love anything that sparkles.  After a Thai dinner at my son's house tonight with my daughter-in-law and my adorable grandson, age three, we opened presents.  In this box there was a beautiful little bird, actually about life size and a wonderful candle with a bird, nest and flowers reverse painted on the glass.  Two additions to my collection for future paintings.  Although I don't get to see my sister-in-law much anymore, I always think of her fondly and remember the good times we had together when we were as close as true sisters.

This painting was a lot of fun, and I get to eat the potatoes!  I will dress up the Idaho with butter and cream cheese after cooking in the microwave for 10 minutes.  The red I might cook and put into an olive oil, vinegar, garlic and salt dressing.  The sweet potato will be good baked with cinnamon and butter.

"Past The Pansies & Violets"

 8"H x 10"W              $175.00 plus     10.00 S&H
Pastel on Ampersand Board                      Frame cost $70.00
This is the "Outside My Window" view of my courtyard in front of my townhouse. This is my entry into the Daily Paintworks Challenge for this week. My artist friend Ann Feldman offered this challenge and painted her cat begging outside the window to come in! My pots of Pansies and Violets are on sitting on the top step going down into the courtyard from the French doors. I don't use the steps,(I go out the main front entry) so always have potted plants on them. My courtyard has an Asian theme with a stone walk-way leading from the sidewalk past the pagoda over to a stone bench and a fountain that is made up of a bamboo spout trickling water into a stone basin. It is beautiful and soothing, but as with all things, needs to be maintained by making sure the water level doesn't drop so much in one hot afternoon that there is not enough to cover the pump!

My Lillian Vernon Mug

6"H x 6"W  Oil on Canvas Panel
Email me gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

In the 1990's, I often bought decorative items from the Lillian Vernon catalogue.  I got this coffee mug in a set of 6.  Two of the cups have aqua linings inside with blue outside, another has yellow outside with mint green inside, this one has mint outside with aqua inside and my last living one(only 5 left)aqua outside with yellow inside.  They are just wonderful cups.  They are thick enough to keep the coffee hot, and just the right size to put your hands around on a cold day.  They are also large enough, so that you get about 10oz. of coffee if you don't take any gobblety-gook in your coffee..otherwise you get a full 8oz and can add that "other stuff".
I take my Colombian coffee straight!

8"H X 8"W  Oil  on panel, Framed in plain black wooden frame
  $105.00 , S&H  to your ZIP
To Purchase, email me at gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

This painting is in the June 2011 American Art Collector magazine. I saw this beautiful cup at Dominick's and just had to buy it since it has my favorite colors and they are in polka-dots!!  The red enameled coffee pot and the pear added the extra color and completed the "story".
