Gloria J Zucaro's "The Church of Saint Mary, Gdansk, Poland"

6"H x 6"W Original Oil on panel
Questions?

This is my April entry into the Virtual Paintout.  This month we are walking through Gdansk, Poland.  This is The Church of Saint Mary.  The skyline of the cathedral and the adjacent buildings silhouetted  in a stormy sky was what attracted my attention. To see the street view I used, go to this link  http://g.co/maps/e2p5h      I under-painted with transparent oils.

This is also my entry for Paint Party Friday.  I have missed almost a month of Fridays!  Happy PPF!.

  1. I really like the way you have depicted the architecture in a somewhat abstract style against the bright stormy blue of the sky.

    1. Thanks so much, Jean. I checked out your site and must say your banner with the apples and reflection is just gorgeous. I was gone the last two weeks of March, but saw that you had submitted to the St. Petersburg paintings. I love the globes also. I am WIP with St Basil's domes.

    1. Thank you, Netty. Trying to show the "mood" and what really attracted me to paint a subject, not just rote painting.

  11. This is beautiful. I love your strong vibrant style and the wonderful angle you painted the buildings at. I've never been to Gdansk but we were in Krakow earlier this year for the second time - I love it there. Polish cities must all have wonderful architecture.

http://virtualpaintout.blogspot.com/ and was looking for something inspirational and something that represented the city well. I bet Krakow is beautiful, too. I love the old historical cities and their uniqueness.

  16. I love your style of painting, the sky is so realistic. I haven't painted in oils for years, they give such vivid colors, I can't endure the fumes, must be allergic.

  17. Hi Gloria, lovely painting I really like seeing all the brush strokes as it gives it such a wonderful energy!!! Gorgeous work! :0)

In answer to your question about what my artist in residency is, well I'm going to be working in the primary school that my boys attend. They had another artist in a few years ago but she's since retired. They are employing me as a teachers assistant and they will have me taking small groups of children at a time and doing art projects with them. I'm going to have them do some mixed media projects as well as other different kinds of things, they will hopefully display them around the school. I will also be doing new murals for the pre-school and some new ones in the primary school! :0) I'm very excited. I'm not a qualified art teacher. I think in the primary schools over here (this one is government run) they have a limited budget so to employ an artist in residence part time like me is a way of including art in the program. They also have a dance teacher at the school too. I'm very excited to be able to share some art experiences with the children! :0) I shall let you know how it goes. Perhaps your daughter could try out for an artist in residence while she finds something else??

    Hope that helps :0)
