My drawing tonight was inspired by something I heard on the news.  Apparently in the last 10 years there has been an unusual increase in people who live alone.  Although it is only about a 1% increase and is probably mostly young people starting their careers and marrying later, there was also a large increase of seniors living alone in the Midwest, especially, which is where I live.  So I thought about how I look at it.  I am the queen of my household, with no schedules to meet for another.  I may stay out after most people would go home to cook dinner for the family.  I can decorate my castle as I wish with no consultation with another..except my pocketbook. I can watch any TV show I like at anytime of the night or day, and play my music loud(with consideration for the neighbors!) etc.,etc.  But on the other hand, if something is funny on TV you have no one to laugh with.  If you come home late for dinner and just eat a bowl of pop-corn, that is not so good for you.  If you always have to do all the laundry, all the cleaning, all the cooking, all the yard work, all the bill paying, all the car maintenance, IT IS TOUGH BEING THE QUEEN!  Sometimes you just wish you had someone to take care of you!  But thank goodness...I have wonderful children(and grandchildren) close by and and some further away who keep in close touch.  As an artist I have many artist friends that I see several times a week and who will always help out in a crunch.  So all in all, I am very lucky to have my little kingdom ,er Queendom, all my own!   Disclaimer!  I am not sad or lonely, just pensive this time around.           This is my Paint Party Friday entry for this week.  Go see all the wonderful artwork offered by the many artists who go to the party hosted by Eva & Kristin!

  2. It would be tough to be alone at times, though the whole having control of the remote and not consulting others sounds rather delicious from my point of view at the moment... love the drawign you have done and it captured your writing so well...xx

  3. Love the drawing. Reminds me of a famous stained glass window...can't remember which one. On the up side ... you don't have to share your bowl of popcorn. Glad you've got good friends and family around. Being alone is tough... :)

  15. I know what you mean about being household queen! Same here, and I have no family and very few friends here, so sometimes it's hard. But on the other hand, it gives me lots of time for being creative. Love your zentangle drawing! You asked if I have been to Norway - no! I research things on Wikipedia, and make up the rest.... Hugs, Valerie

  19. My sister has outlived 2 husbands and she is a people person. That's not good. But she has children nearby. She is queen in her household, except for the huge Chow-chow dog. I am happy to have my dh of almost 55 years around to help make decisions. I enjoyed your post. I didn't find it sad at all, but pensive, as you said.

I think the flower painting below is outstanding. I love those colors.

Thanks for the visit. The dribbling of paint was new for me. My dh has a serious illness and we spent much time lately at the hospital. So in desperation I did the background so I could have a new painting. I hesitate to post old ones. I think the idea of PPF is to do new work each week.

  20. I forgot to say that yes, the acrylics paint stay 3-D. I made a greetings card out of the background and it has lots of texture.

  21. Hi Gloria. My mom is the "Queen" of her household and she always says, "I may be alone, but I'm not lonely." I smile for you and your household and of course your wonderful piece. Your Queen looks calm and pensive and very sure of herself. Nice job. Happy PPF!

  24. Your queen looks regal, but gentle, love those jewels in the background. I've seen a mug, that would suit this post, it said: "Queen of #*%<$ing everything", quite funny... Great post!

  25. First off I adore your doodle, it is amazing. I agree with everything you say! Although I live communally with my daughter and son-in-law in the castle that was originally mine I can do pretty much what ever I please. If they were not there, yes I would eat popcorn for dinner and they know it too!! Instead still playing the mother roll to adults I often make a very nice meal. However I sit back on my laurels on the weekends and they cook. It's a very shared experience around here that never was when I was partnered up...WAY better!! I stay up late doing art and sleep late if I please...all my choice, nothing is said!! Great post!

    Hugs Giggles
