Gloria J Zucaro's "Door County Barn"

Today I finished this oil painting of a barn from a photo I had taken in Door County, Wisconsin last Summer.  It is so sad that so many barns are not being kept up and are falling down and disappearing forever.  Many of the new barns going up are called pole barns that you can buy in a kit at a farm supply store.  Although some are pretty nice looking, they just don't feel the same to me as the older traditional barns.
Linking to Paint Party Friday and The Daily Paintworks.  For those of you living in the Chicago area or Lake County specifically, my original oil painting "Fone Home" will be on exhibit at the Robert T. Wright Gallery in Grayslake, IL for a month, in the Lake County College Members Show.  The opening reception is January 18th from 7 to 9 PM.   19351 W. Washington Street, Grayslake, IL 60030

  2. What an exquisite painting...I love the colours and how exciting to have your painting exhibited.
Good Luck although I'm sure you won't need it ;D

I totally agree that these beautiful barns should be saved. At least you've captured it Gloria. Let's hope people realise that they are really special and will try to save them.

I obviously haven't visited you as much as I should have because you've been so busy...I've had to go back over your posts!
You've produced some beautiful pieces of work Gloria :D

  3. Gloria, this feels so good to me. I also am a lover of old barns ... Am always taking photos of them. Those falling down ones I call fixer uppers! But you are right most do not get fixed up at all. So we need to keep drawing and painting them ! We will both be at receptions for our art tomorrow night! Good luck with sales! Speaking of which thanks so much for buying my book, One Fish... Can't wait to hear what you think!

  6. Loving your beautiful barn set in wonderful scenery. Quite a few barns are being sold off here in the UK and have been made into homes....the term used here to sell the property is called a Barn Conversion. Happy PPF, Annette x

  8. Gloria, I don't know of a subject that I like better than old barns. I love this beautiful oil painting you have done. The colors in the grass are amazing and the poison ivy growing up the side of the barn looks so authentic. Many old barns are hanging on by a thread now. In another 25 years most will be gone.

  18. Oh how funny..I posted a barn for PPF I am working on and told how it burnt down. It had such character and was of good old wood too. Some of it is still there but only about a quarter of it. You did a great job on yours. HPPF
