Gloria J Zucaro's "Blorange"

My painting today is for Jennifer Mclean s' The Artist Playroom.  The theme of the suggested challenge is to paint something predominately in blue and orange.  One of our participants in these challenges is Tracey Fletcher King and these two complimentary colors are her favorites.  I chose to paint an orange on a blue plate.  It is very impressionist and loose...why, because I was testing out a new app on my IPod Touch 5 that my son and his wife gave me for Christmas.  It is called Art Rage.  It is a drawing/painting app.  You can choose your tools, your supports and your palette of colors.  This is my first attempt using it, and it was somewhat of a struggle in control on a small screen.  I think I need a stylus or whatever you call the tool you use instead of your fingers .  I also don't know how to get my paintings done in the app to my regular camera roll on the Touch, so couldn't email it to myself.  I took a picture of it with my regular camera and put it into Adobe Elements 9 to try to "fix" the distortion from taking it off the screen surface.  I was introduced to this app by Susan Ploughe who has done several studies with it on her IPad and will use them for future paintings.  Now if I could only figure out how to save it to my camera roll.  I tried the three finger tap on the screen, and the two finger tap, but can't find any button to send it to my email.  Help!

  1. Don't know how it works on the iPod, but on the iPad you send it to email from the Gallery, not from the working page that you are showing above. See if there are any icons there. Love it!

  3. OMG, you did this on a computer!!?! so well done, I couldn't make accurate stick figures on a computer, lol. IF you get a stylus, I had on when I had an ipad and boxwave capacitive stylus was GREAT. I recommend it highly. Great blorange art.

    1. I will look around for the stylus. As you can see my finger touched the screen and left little paint "drops". You can go backwards but I didn't see them until after I had done some other things and didn't want to erase those.

  5. Looks great for your first one, wouldn't know it was your first go! I love those colors. I have an ipad but I haven't tried any painting on it. I do use Painter though with my VisTablet and pen (stylus) on my imac and love it. Looks like it's similar but Painter probably offers lots more options. If you find you want to get serious with the digital painting, give it a look. Corel makes it. Nice work Gloria!

    1. Thank you for the information,Jaime. It is really a Boone for people who don't want to carry a lot of "stuff" with them when out and about.

  6. very cool! I have not tried any drawing apps. I'll have to look into that, I have a lot of waiting around time. It would be nice to be productive! I like the way you can see the brushstrokes.

  7. yes, it is really quite realistic. When you add another color over one that you already put down, they mix together just like they would in a wet painting.

  9. It's quite nice -- it has a glassy look to it -- almost like I'm looking through a window to the orange on a blue plate. A good sense of composition & color trumps any lack of computer knowledge, I think. It'll be great to see what you come up with in the future. Gotta love new toys.

  11. I love the glorious colours on this and the freedom and verve of the painting. Fantastic. I love making digital art, i use Brushes a lot but will look out your program.
As someone said, usually you have to send to gallery, then to photos or email etc. is there a little 'bent arrow' icon? If so this usually gives you options to send to photos, mail, fb, etc.
i'll be back to see more of your digitals and APR paintings.

  13. glorious, Gloria!! I love how much fun is available if we'll just take the time to TRY things out!! I never knew I COULD DO what sometimes Now I catch myself DOing without thinking!!

I have been dreaming about one of those Bamboo tablet things, but I'm actually discovering quite a passion with real drawing with pen, pencil, marker, and even a paintbrush!! I am hoping to return to the World of Apple after 15 years, and I'll surely BE looking for having this sort of fun when THAT happens!!

  14. This is really cool! I like the loose look of it. I have never tried this, but I think I would be even more frustrated than when painting with a brush, LOL!

  15. You did this digitally? Amazing! I don't do digital art at all so I am very impressed. It is a great entry for the challenge in any case.

  16. I was amazed when you said you had 'painted' this on an ipod. It looks like a real painting, that's just amazing. I am no good with this technology (I have trouble just making a screen do anything on my daughters ipad), so I can't help with the photo storing. It looks so much like a real painting, just gorgeous and bright.

P.S. The rain has stopped at last!

Have a wonderful week and I can't wait to see what you produce next!
