This week at The Artist's Playroom we are making bookmarks or other drawings/paintings/photos related to books.
Here is my "stack" bookmark done in ink and colored pencil. I will cut this out for actual bookmark use.
The style is called a “ pattern stack”. Here is the original link where I learned
about them. http://rainbowelephant.com/repeat-pattern-stacks/#more-1297 My
bookmark is not following the exact recipe, except that the different items are
precariously stacked up. It is just
about reading & learning and sitting down for a cup of tea with a good
book. The flowers are something I would
just like to have in the room with me.
You are just supposed to draw anything that comes to mind. I often like to look on a map to see where something
in a story is located.
The apples are
because I thought of “an apple for the teacher”.
It is on 140 LB. watercolor paper and is 8 1/4"H x 2 1/2"W
Hi Gloria,
ReplyDeleteI've been staring at your bookmark and wondering what it means!
Anyway, I dropped by to tell you that you won my weekly ATC giveaway, so please email me your snail mail address so I can send it off to you promptly! Thank you for your encouragement! Hugs from the Philippines! patsy.paterno (at) gmail.com
I took note of your comment and added an explanation. Can't wait to get my "prize"!
Deletegreat bookmark! I love the colors. All it needs is a tassel, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea behind your bookmark. I've only ever balanced 3 or 4 things on top of each other in my drawings never called them stacks, or any name really, but I love the wacky pile of things on your bookmark, so perhaps I'll try a few more things balancing on top.
ReplyDeleteREAD is a good word for a bookmark, like it.
I love everything you've done with this Gloria. The idea of a stack is great. I like that you have written 'Read' on your bookmark. One of my favourites says, 'SHH...' on one side and on the other '.....I'm reading!' love it, haha. :0) Mo
ReplyDeleteGreat bookmark - you hit all the important 'must-haves' to enjoy a good book. Adorable drawing.
ReplyDeleteI want to curl up with a cuppa and a great story now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever bookmark. Thanks for the stack link, I'm always on the lookout for inspiration.

I love your explanation and the method behind your bookmark. Creative fun!
ReplyDeletehow exquisite, Gloria!! I love your stack and I'm going to check out that link straightaway!!
ReplyDeletei keep wanting to try that pattern stack, but not yet. your bookmark is pretty cool - i think the word 'eclectic' comes to mind - and that's a good thing :) the roses are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like the combination of line work and bright colours... it is hard working in that long skinny format and I completely chickened out on it... admiring the fact that you handled it so well...xx
ReplyDeleteThis is great, such a story to go with it. Love the bright colours.
ReplyDeleteVon.
This is so sweet Gloria, had a look at thepattern stacking link, hadn't heard of it before, what an interesting idea to connect unconnected forms. Great post.
