Gloria J Zucaro's "Possibilities"

Today I thought I would show you how you can frame your ink designs.  These are traditional black wood frames sized for a 6" square painting.  By centering the 3.5" square with an attractive background, you can use these frames which are 8" x 8" from side to side.  All of these drawings are sold.  To frame them this way is $18.00.

To frame them in an 8" x 10" mat with glass and frame tab above.

Gloria J.Zucaro's Ten Minute Pumpkin Challenge

Two side-by-side 6"H x 6"W Raymar Canvas Panels
These may be bought as a set or individually for $35.00 each.  The money from the sale will go to Feed the Children Challenge on the Daily Paintworks site after this weekly challenge ends next Saturday.

These pumpkins are the second 10 minute challenge from Carol Marine.  The object is to paint one still life object 8 times.  Each time you do it you are allowed 10 minutes to paint the subject.  When your timer rings, you must stop.  As you can see from my pumpkins, each time you paint it, you have made decisions about what you want to accomplish or change in each one.  I started quite large and ended large.  I changed some colors along the way, too.  By the end I pretty much knew what I wanted to say.  Does this mean I must paint everything 8 times before I get a satisfactory painting??  No, it means though that I should paint as much as possible and really analyze my still life for its' shapes, colors and values before I jump into the painting.  I mixed my pools of color before I started the timer so that I wouldn't waste time experimenting.

Gloria J Zucaro's "Diamonds are..."

11"H x 14"W Original oil on Canvas

                                                                             SOLD
Another really fun challenge from the Daily Paintworks site.  Carol Marine listed a photo of a young girl with a very busy background.  She said to do what we would with the photo in making our own background.  I don't know why, but I immediately thought of the young girl leaving Tiffany's with her bag filled with and her body covered in diamonds.  Carol's photo is below.

At the end of an afternoon of painting, I whipped this little piece off in a flash.  I was surprised when another artist friend said "I love it!  Can I buy it from you?"  So here it is Ann, and "thank you!"

"Green Glass"

6"H x 6"W Original Oil On Stretched Canvas
Unframed with Finished sides Ready to hang.
$65.00 plus shipping to your location.
SOLD

I have owned these green glass salt and pepper shakers for many years and still love looking at them sitting on a tray by my stove top.  I originally bought them at the St. Charles Flea Market at the fair grounds in St Charles,IL.  There is nothing more fun than whiling away a Summer afternoon browsing through treasures from times past.  Of course, the roasted corn, dripping with butter, and the funnel cakes with powdered sugar don't hurt either!

"Cherries With Pitcher"

6"H x 6"W
Oil on Canvas Panel
   SOLD
I did several paintings with cherries...and then got to eat them...wouldn't want them to go to waste!  This one is up close view.  I also did the pitcher wholly in view with the cherries at the bottom.  I like this composition best.

If you are in our area of the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, I have paintings on display at Mainstreet Art Centre, The Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake, IL and The Old Courthouse Gallery in Woodstock, IL.

"Viola"

8"H x 8"W   Oil on Canvas Panel

Framed in plain black wooden frame-SOLD

Viola/violets are one of my favorite flowers.  I love their rich purples and the way they spread or reseed themselves across an area with no effort on my part!  These are contained though by their pretty little cup.

"The Present" and The Past Challenge

In Private Collection
                               8"H x 10"W     Oil on canvas board

This is the latest Daily Paintworks Challenge.  Wrap up a present and paint it.  Well, as it happens today is my birthday and on Tuesday afternoon a box arrived from my ex-sister-in-law.  I opened the box and this lovely present was in it.  So I painted the gift box along with the really beautiful card.  The card has sparkles on it...I just love anything that sparkles.  After a Thai dinner at my son's house tonight with my daughter-in-law and my adorable grandson, age three, we opened presents.  In this box there was a beautiful little bird, actually about life size and a wonderful candle with a bird, nest and flowers reverse painted on the glass.  Two additions to my collection for future paintings.  Although I don't get to see my sister-in-law much anymore, I always think of her fondly and remember the good times we had together when we were as close as true sisters.

The Most Important Thing

8" x 6"   Oil on wrapped canvas.
SOLD

This is the challenge from The Daily Paintworks site for the week.  Photo from Linda Popple.
I made her hair and phone the warmest and brightest to emphasize the two aspects that had attracted Linda to take the photo on her visit to New York City.  I kept it somewhat abstract.  This young lady looks very much like my youngest daughter, who is tall, has long blonde hair, is intense and wears sunglasses just like this!

Sliced Bananas

                                                                           SOLD

This was fun to do.  I had one last banana that looked like it was going fast!  I decided to slice it as part of my breakfast.  I loved the shapes of the slices but didn't want the wounded part of the rest of the banana showing.  I pulled in some "extras' to take some of the attention off it.

"A Fish Out Of Water"

6 x 6 inch square                          Oil on canvas panel          SOLD

This little fish is one of my collection of trinket boxes.  I liked the idea of the distortion that is made by glass.  I filled a pasta sauce jar with water and put my little fish behind it.   The only thing missing, are the rhinestones on the fish!          To Purchase, Click here

"White On Black Floral" Challenge

SOLD
6" x  6" oil on Raymar Canvas Panel .
This painting is my entry into the Daily Paintworks challenge of painting any white object on a patterned fabric background.  It is so much fun to see all the entries, each different and outstanding in their own way.

Tree Sculpture Series "Late Bloomer"

8"H x 10"W Original Oil on Board,
SOLD

I always think that bare trees look like sculptures.  This tree was in a lovely garden in Long Grove, IL.  Our group was doing Plein Air  and  I picked this tree as my subject matter because its' "body" was so beautiful.  Most everything else in the garden was in bloom, so I titled the painting "Late Bloomer".

"Two Brown Eggs"

6" x 6"   Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
SOLD

This painting is in response to The Daily Paintworks challenge by Carol Marine using a slightly different color for each brushstroke made.  I love the handled bowl that can be used in the oven for broiling the cheese and bread on top of onion soup.  I also enjoyed seeing how shadows were affected by the brown and white eggs.

One & One-Half Red Hot Peppers

This is a 4" x 6' inch oil painting on linen sheet.     SOLD
I am entering in a postcard exhibition at the Discovery Museum in Wauconda , Illinois.  The museum has hundreds of vintage postcards and has a display of them on exhibit at all times,  many of them depicting the surroundings areas in times past.  Every year they have a contest for artists to make new cards about any subject.  They must be exactly 4 x 6 and have a matt around them with the outside demension of 8 x 10.  The chosen artworks will all be displayed in identical frames for the show.  Since I paint in oil and had painted this before I knew all the rules, I had to remove this from the stretcher and glue it onto a backer board.
