Gloria J Zucaro's DPW Pig Challenge "Penelope Goes To The Beach"

8"H x 9.5"W Original Pastel Painting on Canson Paper

This item is for auction at the Daily Paintworks site starting bid $50.00 and the money will be donated to The Africa Challenge for starving children presented by Carol & David Marine.

Penelope's beach day started with a reference photo I had taken in 2009 in Fredericksburg, Tx while at a workshop with Cheri Christensen.  She was in a farmyard setting, but I knew where Penelope really wanted to be!

When deciding what to paint one day at the studio I noticed this very nice set-up of pots with artificial cacti.  I rearranged it to be a little tipsy and from more of a birds-eye view.  I love the colors and shapes!

Gloria J Zucaro's Rectangle Challenge "Sun and Wind"

6"H x 6"W  Original Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel Unframed with small stand for display.
$65.00    S& H to your ZIP.
This weeks challenge was to make a painting with  rectangles only.   It was a lot of fun and the necessary simplification of the shapes was really good lesson for Plein air or still life.

Gloria J Zucaro's Superstition Challenge "Stormy Weather"

9 1/2"H x 11 1/2"W  Pastel on Sanded Paper

$85.00 double matted with Plexi, no Frame
S&H to your ZIP.

This painting will be for auction on the Daily Paintworks website.
dailypaintworks.com.

I actually finished this painting on Monday last, but then tried something new...spraying it with fixative.  I learned that it definitely darkened it, which can change the values somewhat.  I also learned that if you use charcoal as your black, it blurs out with the moisture.  So after completing all my work this week with painters, plumbers, and carpet cleaners for selling the townhouse, I finally worked on it again to fix values, add highlights and make the black cat a little less of a puddle!  So now I am posting it on The Daily Paintworks site as my entry into last Saturdays challenge which was superstitions.  This one is about never opening an umbrella in the house and black cats crossing under...things??.  I am not really superstitious, however, I am cautious about not stepping on a crack in the sidewalk and possibly breaking my mother's back!!!!  (Step on the crack, break your mother's back!).  I read that only 1 in 20 adults avoid cracks in the pavement...wow...I feel really special, LOL!

Shadow Stack

11 1/2"H x 9 1/2"W  Original Pastel on Sanded Paper.
$100.00 Unframed  $150.00 Framed with double mat, glass, frame.
$125 with Double Matt and Plexi , no frame.
S&H to your ZIP.

Unframed/Framed

This is a pastel I did  at The Clearing Folk Art School in Door County, WI in July in a workshop with Frankie Johnson..  The object was to place a fabric with design into the back and foregrounds and show how they changed both in perspective and color value.  We each set up our own still life arrangement with our choice of fabric.  Of course, I had to choose a fabric with aqua/turquoise!  These circular boxes came from Ikea and stack within themselves from about 8" diameter down to a one incher.  They are each a different jewel tone in color.  I like things a little off kilter and a large contrast between light and dark.

Peach Tea With Tina

8"H x 8"W  Original Oil On Canvas Panel
$105.00 Framed in Black Wooden Frame.
S&H to your ZIP
To Purchase, email me at gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

Fourth of July weekend, my fellow artist friend ,Tina, invited me and another artist friend to her house for painting and a barbecue.  We arrived early afternoon...twoish, and starting setting up our easels.  Tina asked me what I had brought to paint as a still life.  "I thought you would have the still life for us!", I said incredulously!"  How ungrateful I was!  She had made three stations, one for each of us, and all I had to do was to have something to paint.  Well, she offered us a drink of a delicious peach tea she had made and garnished with peach slices and cantaloupe.  AHA!  I will paint my glass of tea against one of Tina's pretty fabrics in the background.  A different glass of  tea was consumed several times during my painting  efforts as it was a hot day even in her air conditioned "Vitamin D" room,(studio with floor to ceiling windows).  After we finished our paintings, Tina had prepared a delicious dinner...cheese burgers(she barbecued herself), tomato salad, cold slaw,  home- made potato salad(my contribution), and Maria the other artist had made several delicious chocolate desserts..frozen banana dipped in chocolate ganache, pound cake in ganache, and Fromage Blanc that she made herself topped with chocolate and fresh blueberries and strawberries.   There was lots of wine and great conversation, too!   A wonderful party.

"Ribbon Bird"

6"H x 6"W  Original Oil Painting on Raymar Canvas Panel
$95.00 framed in plain black wooden frame..S&H to your ZIP.
To Purchase, email me at gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

This little bird is about 3 inches tall and is one of my collectibles.  He is a porcelain figurine made in Japan.  Now my porcelain bird is much more subtle in color, mostly shades of gray-blue, but somehow???  The reason he is called ribbon bird is because the orange dishtowel behind him has the multicolored ribbons along one edge and he is sitting right among them.

I celebrated my birthday with my son, Louis, his wife Amy and their adorable 3 year old, Enzo.  They prepared a whole celebration for me with dinner and a delicious red velvet cake.  They insisted I take the remaining cake home with me even though they are three and and I am one.  So the next day when I went to the Mainstreet Art Centre to paint, I took the one-half remaining cake to share with my fellow artists.   However the plan was to paint it first.  So I got about two thirds of the way finished with the still life and it was break time.  We usually listen to an instructor talk about a specific painting subject like values or edges or about an artist that may be of interest.  We all gather around and have a cup of coffee or tea and whatever treats people have brought in.  I decided to share the cake at that time instead after lunch, because many of the morning artists would have left.  Well, the cake was really enjoyed...but it was now a small piece and I had begun the painting with one-half a cake.  When I went back to my painting, I just could not seem to finish it properly......so here are the remains of the day!

6"H x 6"W  Original Oil on Raymar Panel
$95.00 Framed in Plain Black Frame,S&H your ZIP.
To Purchase, email me at Gloria@gloriajzucaro.com.

This was my first painting with cherries and a pitcher.  I posted the second one earlier.  It was more of a close up, so that the cherries were the focal point instead of the pitcher being the focal point.  I like them both, but then, I am fond of pitchers...especially if they are turquoise in color!

I love pears, so firm but yet juicy.  The title is thanks to Johanna Arnett who reminded us when we took her workshop last year,"when you don't know what to do, red, yellow, blue."  I think the pear is a stand-in for the yellow element.

Another upside down cereal bowl!  I must be starting a trend??  Well, if I had left it right side up, the cupcake would have only been peaking over the top edge of the bowl from the inside!   My friend Laura, (also an artist, sometimes watercolor and sometimes pastel), gave me the cupcake and I forgot to eat it that day.  The next time I went to the studio to paint it was practically petrified as in The Petrified Forest.  But therefore holding its' delicious folds of butter-cream and sprinkles easily.   However, for some reason no one wanted to eat it after I finished the painting????

A good painting friend invited me over to paint and have dinner.  What a deal!  She furnished the still life(except for my lime green plate that I bought in the clearance area of Joanne Fabrics) and made a terrific dinner, too.  When I came up with this title, I was thinking of the buttercream frosting which was really yummy, and the cookies.  A little take off on "cookies and cream".

That sounds like a healthy breakfast!  I love to "pose" my subjects in unusual ways, so the cereal bowl is upside down supporting the cup.  The lemon gets center stage.  Oops!  Where is the spoon?  Oh well, I guess I will eat my granola dry...with my fingers.  Makes it last longer anyway!

$95.00, S&H to your ZIP
To Purchase, email me at gloria@gloriajzucaro.com

Ah! Remember Spring...I think it lasted about two minutes!  Well, these lovely ladies were in small pots on my front step/planter area.  I just returned from a week away at The Clearing Folk Art School in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin.  I took an excellent oil/pastel workshop from Frankie Johnson and was also there while the Door County Plein Air Festival was going on.  Anyway, I digress...When I returned I found all my potted plants to be burned to a pulp by the incredibly hot and humid weather that the Chicago area had during the past week.  So even though my pansies had gotten a little leggy the first of July, I had cut them back to rejuvenate them and kept up the watering and some fertilizer.  But to no avail!!  They are officially over!   But you may have them forever..what a deal!

I love all kinds of orchids and they are the flowers I paint most frequently.  These are just the very tops of an orchid plant I have on my desk.  I had planned to paint the whole plant with the long, long stems and all...but the beautiful flowers themselves would have been lost, too miniature.

Unframed with Finished sides Ready to hang.
$65.00 plus shipping to your location.
SOLD

I have owned these green glass salt and pepper shakers for many years and still love looking at them sitting on a tray by my stove top.  I originally bought them at the St. Charles Flea Market at the fair grounds in St Charles,IL.  There is nothing more fun than whiling away a Summer afternoon browsing through treasures from times past.  Of course, the roasted corn, dripping with butter, and the funnel cakes with powdered sugar don't hurt either!

Well, here it is The Upside Down Challenge from the Daily Paintworks group for the week of June 18 through 24.  I got so involved with two Balance Challenges, one of them the pastel of my Mahjong tiles took me way too long.  I got behind, but at least I got this weeks Old Mill Challenge done, and now am ready for tomorrows new challenge.  This will be my Operation #47 second painting.  I will give 10% of the sale price of this painting to Breast Cancer Research.
