Gloria J Zucaro's "Sunset at Sea" Pastel

My pastel painting today is from a photo by Michael Yates.  He posted it in 2010 to Paint My Photo which is a copyright free site.  I painted this for the Daily Paintworks Challenge of the week.  The challenge was to paint with your non-dominant hand and was suggested by Christine Holzschuh.  I knew when I saw the challenge that I would try a landscape/ seascape.  I had recently had an email from a friend in Hawaii who is an artist on vacation from Illinois.  Lucky her!  We just had some ice, then a downpour of rain and thunder!  Anyway I didn't want to use her photo because she might get really mad at me!  My friend Corrine had told me about Paint My Photo.  I went to their gallery of photos and searched for "Hawaiian sunset".  Believe it or not this was the only one I found with that tag.  I was true to the challenge until the very end when I forgot one time and found myself changing to my right hand to get the mast drawn in as straight as I could.  I quickly switched back to my left hand.  Working with the opposite hand was not easy, and I have a stiff neck from holding my body in a different direction.  But other than that I found I could accommodate to it.  Maybe my brain grew a little? Ya think?!

Gloria J Zucaro's "Auraknot & Bunzo Challenge"

Every Monday Laura Harms at "I am the diva" posts a new Zentangle challenge.  This weeks challenge is a duo tangle of Auraknot and Bunzo.  We have done each of these before, but not in concert.

I used strings that had the shape of hearts for Valentines' Day and did my tangle on a 4"H x 6"W greeting card.  I first did it in Black and White and then in watercolor with all the Bunzo areas in fushia and red.  The Auraknot areas stand out in their starkness.

I also made another thank you card.  This one for my neighbor who gave me, for Christmas, some delicious pretzels with white chocolate kisses melted inside and green and red M & M's on top.

Gloria J Zucaro's "Glub, Glub"

Last week on Jennifer Mclean's "The Artist Playroom" we were to paint something with pairs.  I started this greeting card on Thursday with a wet watercolor wash.  I let it dry completely for two days because I had thoroughly wet both sides of the card.  On Saturday morning I had planned on finishing my entry into the challenge which ends at noon.  But "life" intervened and I did not get back to the design until Sunday.  As you can see, my "pairs" are two nosey goldfish and a pair of goggles   I did the design in black ink with a Sakura Micron pen # 01.  Then added Silks Acrylic Glaze for the other colors.  The two fish are highlighted with gold.  I finally sprayed the face of the card with Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist by LuminArte

5"H x 7"W   Comes with envelope as a greeting card or may be framed in a 5 x 7 frame.
$6.00  To purchase go to  Daily Paintworks and PayPal
You can see the "sparkle on the photo below.

Our prompt for the week is any type of series of objects/people/animals?!  I finally thought of these bowls that I have had for a few years now and they are still in perfect condition.  I love them because of their wonderful colors of blue, green, red, pink, orange and yellow. They are made of a very heavy plastic called Melamine.  This year they updated the colors, but I like these colors better. The large blue one can hold ten cups(plus) of freshly popped corn!  The tiny yellow one holds about a half cup of nuts or raisins, etc.
I used my Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencils, a #3 Micron black ink pen and a white gel pen.
Get on over and see the rest of the series!

My original design in black and white is below.  I had cards printed from my photos.  After the cards were printed I added the color to the two hearts.  The basketweave shadows are with pencil, the brighter colors in the two hearts with paint pens.  I notice that the background of the card looks blue for some reason.  It is not, it is sepia toned. This is considered a ZIA, Zentangle in art. This is my Happy Valentine to you all.  Thank you for appreciating my art.
This is my Paint Party Friday entry, too.  Happy PPF!.
