This is my challenge entry into this weeks The Artist Playroom hosted by Jennifer Mclean at  http://www.justaddwatersilly.com/search/label/APR.  We were to pick our recipe and create art to go with it.  This week I am also doing lesson one of Dion Dior's class through Joggles.com titled "Watercolor Pencil Workshop with Dion Dior".  I signed up last Friday thinking it started July 28th, but it actually started June 28th, so I am two weeks behind.  One of our projects in Lesson One is to make a simple line drawing with our pen and then cut it up into sections with a curving line running through it to make a sort of stained glass effect.  So I combined my two ideas.  The recipe and the project.  I am linking this to Paint Party Friday, also.  Go see all the other entries,too!  http://paintpartyfriday.blogspot.com/

This drawing/painting is a prompt challenge from Jennifer Mclean over at Just Add Water Silly, The Artist's Playroom.  Our prompt is the word "Juicy".  I thought of several things I might want to paint.  A juicy hamburger, a person eating a fresh and ripe peach, Juicy Fruit Gum... But I finally decided on using my "juicy" and sparkling new paints.  It is a combination of my imagination and tangles.  Let's call the lady "Josephine"!  She has just returned from a long day of shopping and is dreaming of all the beautiful things she saw.  Some affordable and some not.  There were diamonds and pearls, hats and purses and roses, and trips to palaces far and wide.  The money was flying in all directions, she was on a  juicy and sparkling spree!

A spell or sustained period of unrestrained activity of a particular kind: "a shopping spree". A spell of unrestrained drinking....  (no drinking happening here except a small glass of juicy red wine at lunch with her girlfriend!)

http://www.justaddwatersilly.com/ offered the prompt of strawberries,or "Be Inspired By Food" because Spring made her think of strawberries.  I immediately thought of strawberry shortcake because this Sunday is Mother's Day and my Mom's favorite dessert is good old fashioned strawberry shortcake made with real biscuits,not the ones in a can!  Real strawberries and real whipped cream. This is my entry into this weeks I Am the Diva Challenge  http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/

Our tangle to work with is called "Mi2"by CZT Mimi Lempart.  The basic shape is interlocking pieces that remind me of the chainmail that knights would wear.  I started with the feeling of falling into a maelstrom or "the rabbit hole" in the center.  Then did two versions of the basic design.  In the second one I added the perpendicular bars in the centers of the ovals.  Suddenly it looked like ET and the title occurred to me...Fone Home!

This is my entry into Jennifer Mcleans' "Make Me Laugh" challenge over at The Artist Playroom.    http://www.justaddwatersilly.com/search/label/APR.  This one really had me stumped.  So I went to see what some of the examples were, and what a few of the "early bird" artists had already posted.  I couldn't think of anything to paint or draw!  I finally remembered this magnet I had bought years ago that made me smile if not laugh.  So I cut out the "body" of an empty box of raisins for my cardboard support.  It turned out to be 5 x 7, a perfect postcard size!  I then read up on Mod Podge.  I had used it before, but always had trouble with everything I glued getting all wrinkly.  So I bought some Acrylic Sealing spray and sprayed all my little pieces of paper that I had gotten on-line, reduced in size when printing and cut down.  I sprayed them twice, but only on the front.  Maybe I should have done the backs, too, as I still had trouble with some wrinkles.  I was looking for references to the word twisted, because of the above saying about twisted men!  So I got a little tornado man, a "hunk" all twisted up in rope, a contortionist, a little pretzel guy, and a man sniffing a "twist" of lemon.  Whew!  My first collage,who knew it was so involved!   First I glued a photograph of some flowers and a butterfly onto the bare cardboard side of the raisin box.  Then I arranged all the twisted men and my 1940's movie star(whose name I can't remember, so help me out!).  I decided to enlarge the words, so printed them at 150%.  I glued them on.  Next I glued on some torn rice paper in a mint green color.  When that dried, I decided I need to use a Micron pen to enhance the smaller twisted guys as they were kind of dim(hehe) under all that glue!  About a month ago I had ordered through an Amazon seller some mini pots of Twinkling H2O's.  They were cheaper than the regular price.  Well, I opened them tonight and they seem to be all dried up!  I put a bunch of water in the one called "Ice" and crunched it around for a few minutes.  Then I painted it on in a few spots.  It doesn't show up here.  I did take a picture with it catching the light, but it just created a slick "Icy" look so I decided not to show that.  It doesn't twinkle, but it does look like ice!  See the back of my "card" below.  Do you think I can put addresses on the raisin side and mail it?  Or do I need to put it in an envelope so it doesn't get ruined??

Our prompt for the week is any type of series of objects/people/animals?!  I finally thought of these bowls that I have had for a few years now and they are still in perfect condition.  I love them because of their wonderful colors of blue, green, red, pink, orange and yellow. They are made of a very heavy plastic called Melamine.  This year they updated the colors, but I like these colors better. The large blue one can hold ten cups(plus) of freshly popped corn!  The tiny yellow one holds about a half cup of nuts or raisins, etc.

I used my Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencils, a #3 Micron black ink pen and a white gel pen.

I am entering this in the Inspiration Avenue Zentangle Challenge prompt from Jennifer Mclean.  I also entered my Rainbow Mandala from an earlier post.  This was an experiment, and I am not really happy with it.  I drew all the design with a Micron #1 pen.  Then I decided to try a watercolor wash on it.  I didn't want to go too dark or you wouldn't be able to see the ink design.  So with a 2" wash brush I wet the whole surface.  Then I splattered on a rose color, then a blue.  But I thought they were too concentrated, so I started tilting the paper in different directions.  Of course then I got a lavender mix.  It was subtle and kind of pretty, but some more colorful spots remained.  I dried it and then the lavender was very subtle, almost a pale gray, still with splotches of the rose.  So next time I will watercolor a paper first to see if I like it, then do the pen and ink design over that.  I will also leave the colors in their individual areas instead of mixing them totally.

The http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/ challenge this week is to use the tangle pattern called "Brayd" from http://shellybeauch.blogspot.ca/  Michele Beauch, who is the pick for the month for the "Use My Tangle" challenge.  When I saw the "Brayd" tangle I immediately thought of "Tug of War" games.  Probably because the Olympics are on right now.  I used a Google image for the people, so, of course, can not sell this.  But I can trade it, I believe.  Be sure to visit The Diva's site to see all the other tangle creations, and also Shelly's site, she always does fabulous designs.

This is a watercolor I did for a Mandala, then decided to fill in some spaces with tangles. I used a small plate for the circle and then overlapped it on the original circle to make the inner arcs.  I then hand drew the other shapes and all the tangle designs.  I am submitting this(very late) to Paint Party Friday. PPF  Check out all the other submissions for this week.  Happy PPF!
